FAQ
The ATPL exam is designed for Canadian Commercial Pilots looking to be considered hireable at a two-crew operation & grow their careers as a pilot. This includes any medevac, air taxi, commuter or even airline-type operation.
- Must hold a valid CPL
- A Minimum of 1500 hours total flight time
- 250 hours pilot-in-command flight time in aeroplanes
- 100 hours cross-country PIC flight time
- A minimum of 25 hours shall have been by night
- 100 hours night PIC flight time
- 75 hours instrument flight time
- A maximum of 25 hours may have been acquired in approved simulator
- Must hold a valid Multi-engine rating
- Must hold a valid Group 1 IFR rating
- Successful completion of Category 1 medical exam
- Successful completion of the SARON & SAMRA exams
Transport Canada requires an applicant, when enrolled in an approved integrated ATP(A) course (iATPL), have completed the ground school requirements and the Group 1 instrument rating flight test.
OR
All other applicants shall have a minimum of 375 hours total time (25% of the total flight experience).
This can be found in CAR 421.13 (4)(e)(f)
Examinations that are required for the issuance of an ATPL shall be completed during the 24-month period immediately preceding the date of the application for the permit, license or rating.
